ABOUT

I was hired under contract as the lead designer for the Spring 2020 issue of Klipsun Magazine. As the editor in chief, Zoe Deal, wrote in the opening letter, “These pages are filled with many hard truths and necessary lessons, alongside stories of metamorphosis, peace and unbridled joy.” I helped shape the look and feel of the catalog with a style guide and template, and supervised the other designer on the team during the process. I would run design decisions by the editor in chief, and even managed to get a couple of illustrations into the final print as well.

moodboards

Prior to any sort of designing, I ran a few moodboards by the editor in chief to hone in on a style that best represented the theme of the issue. As a team, we decided on #3.

production

Most of the 3 month project was spent on gathering data assets like photos, interviews, and other media. During that time, I chiseled away at the template, and met with some print experts to select the paper and cover (which was potentially the hardest part), so when it came to the final two weeks we’d be ready to plug everything in. We had a total of two production days, and then the files were packaged and sent off to the printers.
